When Samantha first contacted me over a year ago, about shooting her wedding, I said, “no.” Actually, when she first contacted me, I saw that she was from Ohio, so I thought maybe it was a scam, since… well, who in Ohio would want to hire a photographer from so far away? Anyway, I finally called her and instantly connected- she is absolutely my kind of person. Down to earth, easygoing, creative and.. well, I knew i’d be her wedding photographer when she told me that she wanted photos to show the “big hearts” of her friends and family and “not just big posed smiles.” That, and it helped that she didn’t care that I’d never photographed a wedding before.
The wedding party traveled up from Ohio and all stayed at the Lodge on Long Lake, where they also held the reception, with the ceremony at the Presque Isle Lighthouse on Lake Huron.
I arrived to get some candids of the bride and her girls getting ready. The bridesmaids had the cutest matching pajamas.
There were so many hugs and laughs- the love and joy and the easy way these people have of just being together filled my heart. Sam and Mike decided to do a “first look” and exchange their wedding gifts before the ceremony. It’s such a great, intimate way to reconnect and get the first look in private, without the pressure of the guests or the flow of the ceremony distracting the couple. Here’s Mike as he waits to see Sam for the first time, as his bride.
I can only imagine the exitement and suspense… After the first look, they joined their wedding party for a couple quick photos and then off to get married!
It was a gorgeous day, with awesome people, and an experience I’m honored to have witnessed. Thanks, Samantha and Mike!
